Our first stop this week was to the set of 'Howl,' a brand new feature film shooting in NYC.
'Howl' is a bio pic on legendary poet, Allen Ginsberg. And James Franco is playing the man himself. The cast also includes, Paul Rudd, Mary-Louise Parker, and a bunch of other shmucks -- who we love.
Before arriving, we heard James Franco was already on set. This was comforting, because he's a pretty decent name to photograph -- plus we wanted to ask him about that recently published photo of him sleeping during his real-life college classes (at NYU).
A serious-faced, p*ssed-off, paparazzi-hating version of James Franco's face appeared and was walking to its trailer from the set. He was wearing a dress shirt, tie, and the classic Ginsberg glasses. He definitely looked almost identical to a young Allen Ginsberg -- minus the big nose. (Don't forget, James Franco is a Gucci model. And Allen Ginsberg wasn't.)
So the man -- Allen Franco James Ginsberg -- is approaching, and we run right up and tell him, on video, "Hey James. We saw that picture of you sleeping in class the other day. That was... unfortunate." -- his first reaction? To look away, and cover his face with his arm.
Seconds after we get our shots , we're surrounded by a bunch of dopey Production Assistants who demand that we never film James Franco again. Apparently the man is "in character." And these people are far too serious.
It's unfortunate that the dude couldn't just be down to earth, crack a joke with us, and not make us feel like we're doing something horrible.
Many stars are VERY nice and VERY respectful when we film them -- James Franco is NOT one of these stars.
LittleJerry - i just know james as the spoiled rich kid in spider man, i can't believe hes headlining a movie on his own. or that hes still acting at all for that matter. coudln't they have gotten anyone better?
stupidfamous - He's actually getting more and more critical acclaim as of late, for roles such as the one he had in 'Milk'.
Carrie112 - He does not look happy to see you guys! P.S. How was he ever a model, his body is OUT OF SHAPE and he's really not cute. The hairstyle is similar to what my brother supported in middle school.
MrNiceGuy - What? That hair is mad cool. It's definitely a little "prepster" but, I guarantee that will be the hottest mens hair style this year.
