This weeks American Idol them was "songs that were released during the year the contestant was born". Here is my recap of how the contestants performed (and yes, my recap is better than any other crap out there).
Danny Gokey sang “Stand By Me” - he changed the melody up and tried to make it interesting. I was waiting for the climax of the song but it never really took off. Not one of his best performances, but I look forward to watching him every week.
Kris Allen performed “All She Wants to Do is Dance” - he changed the arrangement of this song and it was horrible. I went from hating him to liking him back to hating him again.
Lil Rounds did Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to Do with It” – she couldn’t be more unoriginal. She is just copying the songs and trying to sound like the artists. I cannot believe she is even in the competition. There are so many other singers on the streets of NYC that are 10 times better than her.
Anoop Desai chose to do Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors” – unbelievable. Anoop Dogg is back!
Scott McIntyre sang “The Search is Over” – he switched it up this week from playing the piano to attempting to play the guitar. It doesn’t matter what instrument he plays. He just can’t sing. He needs to go.
Allison Iraheta sang Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” – great song choice and she did a nice job. It always sound like Allison smoked a pack of Marlboro reds right before she hits the stage.
Matt Giraud sang Stevie Wonder’s “Part Time Lover” – I actually found myself clapping in my family room after this performance. So cool. Did I mention it was so cool?
Adam Lambert sang Tears For Fears “Mad World” – he makes the audience forget about David Cook and all the past winners of Idol. By far the best contestant ever on the show. This was also the first time that I’ve EVER seen Simon Cowell stand up for a contestant, but he did.
