Thought you partied hard in high school? Well it’s nothing compared to the
Gossip Girl kids who rule New York’s swanky Upper East Side.
In this week’s episode,
Blair was going through an identity crisis and struggling to find a college that would accept her, so it only makes sense for
Chuck to walk in and find her clothed in a couture negligee sipping on an amber liquid over ice.
Now it’s been a long time since I was in high school, but not THAT long ago. And when I was writing my college essays I didn’t happen to have a bottle of Belvedere within reach while I sat half naked in the living room. People got drunk the “old fashioned” way. When someone’s parents went out of town you’d put on some music and drink only the finest Kamchatka vodka with whatever was in the fridge -although even when desperate for mixers, you only made the mistake of using milk once.
But on the Upper East Side where kids drink and dress like 35 year old divorcees, Smirnoff is synonymous with rubbing alcohol and let’s be serious, only the help touches cleaning supplies.
No wonder parents hate the show (and their kids eat it up). The bubbly is practically a main character helping these high school kids answer life’s tough questions like: Will
Chuck and
Blair ever get together? Or will
Dan and
Serena find true love (even though his dad dates her mom)?
Only time will tell. But one thing is for sure, they’ll all be running into each other during the weekly AA meetings at The Plaza sometime in the not too distant future. Because really, you can’t call yourself a socialite until you’ve been to rehab at least once. It’s in the rulebook somewhere.
